Yellow warning for frost overnight
Met Éireann have issued a Status Yellow Snow/Ice warning for Ireland as wintry showers, mainly of hail and sleet, will become increasingly widespread for the rest of the day leading to icy patches.
The weather service say that some snow accumulations will also occur. The warning, issued last night (Monday) is valid until 9:00am tomorrow (Wednesday). A Status wind warning has also been issued for Clare, Cork and Kerry.
The Met office say that today will be very cold and windy, with sunny spells and showers. Some of the showers will be of hail and sleet, with a risk of some snow showers, mainly over high ground but also at some lower levels especially later on. There is also a continuing risk of thunder.
The maximum temperatures will be between 3 to 6 Celsius, in a fresh to strong westerly wind.
Tonight is expected to be very cold with clear spells and further wintry showers with some snow accumulations on hills and mountains. The minimum temperature is expected to hit minus 2 to plus 1 Celsius, in fresh west or strong northwest winds with a risk of frost and icy patches. Winds will be moderating overland later.
Tomorrow will be still very cold, with below normal temperatures. The maximum values are expected to be around 2 to 6 Celsius. It will be a bright day, with sunny spells, but scattered showers also, some of hail and sleet, with a continuing risk of snow showers, mainly over high ground. Winds mostly moderate to fresh, west to northwest.
