New notices served on former BJD hotel
New derelict notices have been served on the former Percy French Hotel after the property once again changed ownership, members elected to the Ballyjamesduff Municipal District area were informed last week.
Fianna Fáil's Craig Lovett had asked Cavan County Council to explore what could be done about the once historic hospitality site.
He said the centrally located property has since become an “eyesore” and posed a “danger” to the public, an assessment agreed with by fellow local area councillor Trevor Smith (FG). Senior area engineer for the Ballyjamesduff Municipal District (MD) area Brendan Smith told the councillors that new notices had been served, following which one option was to enforce a compulsory purchase of the property. However, the counci's preference is for the owners to progress matters.
But Mr Smith accepted: “We will have to decide what we're going to do one way or another. Decisions aren't always easy.”
