Cyclist remains in hospital
Gardai in Virginia are investigating a road traffic collision between a cyclist and a car in the Virginia at the weekend.
The incident, between a male cyclist and the vehicle, occurred on Main Street in the south-east Cavan Town shortly before 10am on Sunday, September 9.
It’s understood that the cyclist was taken to Cavan General Hospital where he received treatment for head and neck injuries. The driver of the car was uninjured.
Gardaí seek witnesses after house fire
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following a fire at a disused house in the Townspark area of Cavan Town, the second to have occurred in the local area in as many months.
The latest incident occurred last week on the morning of Wednesday, September 5.
Authorities were alerted at 8.40am when smoke was observed emanating from the property, and a unit of the fire services was dispatched to the scene.
It is the second such fire incident in the Cavan Town area at a disused residential property in as many months.
A house blaze in Jubilee Terrace forced elderly neighbours to be evacuated and prompted alarm among local residents concerned about anti-social behaviour.
Tractor deposit fraud
Gardaí in Cavan have continued to warn locals to remain vigilant of both online fraud and “bogus callers”.
The alert over online deception comes following the latest reported incident involving a deposit paid in connection with the purchase of a tractor online. Gardaí have said the investigation is “ongoing” into the matter.
Bogus callers
Gardai have meanwhile reported a number of so-called “bogus callers” either looking to do work or selling clothes to the elderly members of our community.
“Their only intention was to take their savings,” a spokesperson has said, urging people to remind elderly relatives, neighbours or friend living alone not to entertain cold callers to their homes.
“It is also important to encourage them to report such activity to the Gardaí. If you yourself suspect that bogus callers are in your area or doing work for a vulnerable person locally please contact the Gardaí.”
Car damaged in attempted theft
A driver side window was smashed during in what is being treated as an attempted theft of a vehicle in the Cavan Town area last week.
The incident occurred at Townspark between September 2-3.
Gardaí are meanwhile investigating two incidents of thefts from vehicles, in Mullahoran and near Belturbet respectively.
A laptop and phone was stolen from a car at Glan while the owner was at football training in the past week; while, at Staghall Church, cash and a cheque were stolen from a car on September 3 last.

Shed doors stolen in Loch Gowna
Gardai are investigating a theft incident where two shed doors were stolen from a property.
The incident occurred in the townland of Arnaghan near Loch Gowna between the end of July into mid-August but was only reported to gardai earlier this month.
Investigating officers are seeking anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the local area to contact them.

Four charged with driving under the influence
Gardaí in Cavan arrested a total of six motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence over the past week.
Of the six, some four were later charged and are soon due before the courts.
