‘Tumbleweed City’ rolls into town

Following several successful nights at Killeshandra Community Hall, the Killeshandra Drama Group will preform Joe McManus' new play 'Tumbleweed City', running at the Carrigallen's Cornmill Theatre from Friday, May 4 to Sunday, May 6.

Directed and also acted in by Donna Harten, who also plays the part of a Polish barmaid, 'Tumbleweed City' spans two distinct periods of time - the first act in 1978, followed in course by a setting timed around 2002.
Taking place within the confined of a small country pub, the Keen Largh Arms, 'Tumbleweed City' in its telling weaves the demise of rural Ireland as seen through the eyes and opinions of those who attend the counter with regularity.
Along with lamenting the loss of the local creamery among other services, the characters passing through discuss the machinations of life in the town where they live, played out with plenty of comedy and natural pathos.
Playwright McManus, from Milltown, fills the role of 'Pat', the Keen Largh Arms barman; while Dan Sweeney from Killeshandra plays 'Taso', a man full of opinons and he's not afraid to share them.
The ensemble of characters are completed by Glenn Shanley, a regular visitor also, and musician; sisters Martha (Pamela McIntyre) and Mary (Geradline McGrath); and Denis Cullen as Pat's father 'Pheely'.
McManus' latest work, which has never before been preformed on stage, deals with strong and compelling social issues laced with trademark comedy and plot-twists.
Donna paid tribute to cast when speaking to The Anglo-Celt this week, saying: “They've all been really good, the cast are fabulous and that makes everything easier when bringing a work like this together. Most are seasoned actors already, and its a delight to see them working so well together.”
