Ramor Macra vie to reclaim national title
Members of a local Macra na Feirme club will travel to Cork this weekend hoping to relive past glories and reclaim the title of top club in the country once again.
The 2017 winners, Ramor Macra are in the running to become Macra Club of the Year when the final takes place this coming Saturday, October 26, at the Macra National Conference.
Its a big year for the Virginia-based club, which is riding high on a wave of success with member Thomas Duffy, a dairy farmer and part-time agricultural advisor, currently serving the organisation as National President, following his appointment earlier this year.
Ramor Macra were the first Cavan club to ever win the title, and they posted on social media recently: 'The preparation has been in full swing the last few weeks here at Ramor Macra with Club Of The Year prep, and as Saturday draws near we’d like to thank all those who support us year on year.
'Best of luck to our club officers in the presentation, I’m sure you’ll do us proud and show everyone what Ramor Macra is all about.'
Cavan could however be successful on two fronts, with the newest club in the region Sliabh Glah Macra represented in the Best New Member category by Killgarry native Breifne O’Brien.
The club has dug a busy furrow since its establishment late last year, and the success of that has in part being accredited to Mr O'Brien who has been nominated for the prestigious personal accolade.
