Over 800 Cavan students get Leaving Cert results
Just over 800 students across Cavan will receive their long-awaited Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied (LCA) results today (Wednesday). Of those, 754 sat their Leaving Cert in Cavan schools; while 52 completed their LCA.
Of the 800 plus local students, 358 are female students, with 448 male.
This year sees the first examination in the Leaving Certificate subject Politics and Society, with 867 candidates in 41 schools nationwide set to receive their results this morning, while also changed is the assessment arrangements in Leaving Certificate Art.
It is furthermore the second year that a new grading system has been applied to all Leaving Certificate subjects, since its introduction in 2017. The new grading system reduces the number of grades from 14 in the old system to just eight under the revised arrangements.
The overall number sitting the examinations this year was 57,149. Of the candidates who sat Leaving Certificate examinations this year, 54,440 candidates followed the Leaving Certificate (Established) programme, of which 13,368 (24.5%) followed the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme. A further 2,709 (4.7%) candidates followed the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme.
The 2018 figures include 2,556 External and 907 Repeat Candidates.
Under a ruling by the European Court of Justice, examinations scripts are now classified as personal data and accordingly candidates can seek copies of their scripts. The viewing of scripts takes place in schools on Friday, August 31, and Saturday, September 1.
