18yearold dies in car crash

Gardai in Cavan are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the R188 Road near Ballyhaise at approximately 5.25pm yesterday evening.

An 18-year-old male was fatally injured when the car, in which he was a front seat passenger, collided with a ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Cavan General Hospital. The driver and rear seat passenger were also taken to Cavan General Hospital with injuries described as minor.

This stretch of road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
