Man remanded on sex assault charges

A 33-year-old man from County Monaghan appeared at Cavan District Court today charged with sexually assaulting a female and also with intentionally engaging in offensive conduct of a sexual nature in County Monaghan on a date in August, 2018.

The man cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim in the case and strict reporting restrictions were placed on media.
Prosecuting Inspector Micheál O'Donoghue objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the alleged offences before the court.

However, following representations from barrister Julie O'Brien (instructed by Brid Mimnagh solicitor), the defendant was remanded on strict bail conditions to appear again at Monaghan District Court on November 25, 2019.
