MacGabhan Family concert among the Ed Reavy highlights
For three days venues across in Cavan Town will be alive with trad music as the Ed Reavy Festival gets underway later this evening (Friday).
The packed festival programme includes concerts, exhibitions, workshops, music and singing sessions, dancing ceili’s, historical talks as well as The Ed Reavy International Fiddle Competition in honour of the great man himself.
Seoda - winners of the 2018 Battle of the Bands competition have the honour of launching the event on Friday, October 18 at 9.30pm, when they take to the stage of the Meadowview Inn.
Who will win the Ed Reavy International Fiddler of the Year 2019 and win a top prize of €1,000? The competition gets underway in the Cavan Crystal Hotel on Saturday, October 19 at 1.30pm.
The Crystal’s Balavaun Suite will also host ‘Our Favourite Ed Reavy Tunes’ from 5.30-6.30pm, which brings together numerous respected musicians - including the MacGabhann family - in celebration of the Barnagrove native’s genius.
The Cavan Crystal Hotel will also host a variety of workshops on Saturday and Sunday.
The Dancing in The Drumlins event of course coincides with the Ed Reavy festival and this year will see a trio of ceili dances at The Backyard Arts and Cultural Centre, Moynehall. On Friday ‘The Copperplate’ provide the tunes, while on Saturday night, ‘Rise the Dust’ take their turn, and Sunday afternoon (2.30pm) sees ‘Tim Joe and Anne O’Riordan’ perform.
The festival highlight for many will come with the MacGabhan Family’s concert in the Cavan Crystal on Saturday night. Support comes from Gary ‘Box’ Curley and Stephen ‘Banjo’ McKee, House of Hamill and Shane Meehan.
It should make for a great occasion.
