Due diligence on Kingscourt plan nears conclusion
A team of consultants will shortly be hired to drive forward the multi-million euro Kingscourt Town Centre Regeneration plan.
Last year €10,897,812 was allocated to the project by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, with that sum rising to circa €12.1M with matched funding taken into account.
Addressing the April monthly meeting of Cavan County Council, local Fianna Fáil Councillor Clifford Kelly asked the local authority’s executive for an update regarding the investment.
He said that traders in the busy east county town are anxiously awaiting an update.
The Kingscourt Town Centre Regeneration will deliver a transformational redevelopment of the town core including the refurbishment of a former bank building to provide a community library and the refurbishment of another former bank building to create a multi-functional hub.
The project will also aim to provide new and improved amenities, a more vibrant and attractive town centre and improved quality of life for residents.
Responding to any concerns expressed, Director of Services Paddy Connaughton told the meeting that “due diligence” was taking place, and that this is both necessary and extensive given the scale of the investment at hand.
But he stated that, once that process had concluded, the council would be in a position to hire consultants, with the next step after that to proceed to construction.
