Four arrested in connection with thefts

Gardaí in Cavan have released three while a fourth individual remains in custody for questioning following a number of alleged thefts from business across Cavan and Monaghan.
Shortly before 8pm yesterday (Friday, March 14), Gardaí attached to the Divisional Armed Support Unit while on routine patrol carried out a search on a vehicle at Applegreen on the N3 outside Cavan Town.
The occupants of the vehicle were in the process of committing theft in store.
They attempted to flee the scene but were stopped after getting into an awaiting vehicle.

With assistance from Gardaí in Cavan Community Engagement and Crime Units, the occupants of the car, four male juveniles, aged in their late teens, were arrested.
Following a search of the vehicle, the property found in the boot was identified as having been taken in a number of thefts in retail outlets in Cavan and Monaghan on Friday.
The four males originated from the Dublin area and are said to be "well known" to Gardai there.
Three of the four arrested males have since been released pending referral to the Garda Youth Diversion Programme.
The fourth juvenile male remains in custody at a Garda Station in the Cavan/Monaghan Division.
"Investigations are ongoing," said a garda spokesperson.
