GAA: Limerick defeat Galway as Offaly promoted to 1A

Limerick ran out as 1-27 t0 0-18 winners over Galway as they moved up to third place in Division 1A.

Shane O'Brien's goal in the 19th minute helped Limerick to a 1-12 to 0-8 lead at the interval, with Aaron Gillane and Cian Lynch also among the scorers.

Galway had made a positive start to the second half, but their task was made more difficult with the sending off of Conor Cooney.

In Division 1B, Dublin beat Carlow 2-29 to 3-17 at Parnell Park for their third win of the campaign.

Dónal Burke scored nine points for Dublin, with the goals coming from Ronan Hayes and David Purcell.

That win means Offaly can't be caught at the top of the table and will be promoted to Division 1A next year.

In football, Wexford were the first side this season to earn promotion as they defeated Wicklow 0-20 to 0-12 in Division Four.
