Geopark proves a hit for visitors at Holiday World exhibition

Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark showcased the best of Cavan and Fermanagh at Holiday World Dublin this January, bringing together key tourism providers from both regions to highlight their unique offerings to a wider audience. The event marked a significant opportunity to promote the Geopark and the diverse tourism experiences available across the Cuilcagh Lakelands and the wider Irelands Hidden Heartlands region.

With a presence on both the This is Cavan! stand and in the Northern Ireland village, visitors to the show had twice the opportunity to hear and learn about Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark.

Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr TP O’Reilly said “the participation of these businesses at Holiday World Dublin was a collaborative effort to increase visibility for the region and strengthen cross-border tourism ties. The business community supported by our tourism officers are great ambassadors for this area and we are delighted to be able to work in partnership to showcase Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark to the global market at events such as Holiday World Dublin”.

Visitors to the stand were able to learn more about the rich heritage, stunning landscapes, and diverse experiences that make Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark and the surrounding areas an attractive destination for travellers seeking both adventure and sustainability’.

On the This Is Cavan! stand, several businesses from across Cavan demonstrated the region’s diverse tourism offerings, from slow adventure activities to luxury authentic stays. Trivia House in Swanlinbar showcased a thriving community tourism initiative, while neighbours in Bawnboy, The Keepers Arms, proved that there continues to be a strong market for homely comforts with quality local cuisine and warm hospitality. Other standout attractions included Cavan Adventure Centre, offering a variety of nature based and wellbeing activities whilst our outstanding hotel offering was represented by the Slieve Russell Hotel, a luxury resort known for its scenic surroundings, and Farnham Estate, a tranquil destination renowned for its spa and natural beauty.

Representing the Fermanagh Lakelands part of the Geopark were Erne Water Taxi, offering nature-based tours on Lough Erne; Blue Green Yonder, specialising in eco-conscious water and land based experiences; Marble Arch Caves, an iconic natural attraction within the Geopark; and Florence Court House and Gardens, a National Trust property preserving heritage and protecting the natural beauty of the destination, and the picturesque hidden gem that is Tully Mill was available to share their accommodation, restaurant and find dining experiences. Our friends from Fermanagh Lakeland Tourism were also on hand to provide wider information on things to do, where to stay and unique finds across Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark.

This collaborative initiative is part of a broader effort to drive tourism development, foster cross-border cooperation, and promote the region’s unique offerings.
