Nearly €347k for heritage projects in Cavan and Monaghan
Funding of €346,895 was granted for 34 projects across Cavan and Monaghan under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2025.
Cavan County Council will receive €184,943 under the scheme to support 22 projects.
Meanwhile Monaghan County Council will receive €161,952 for works on 12 projects.
The scheme supports property owners to conserve and enhance historic buildings and streetscapes, and at the same time preserve and develop traditional building skills.
This years grants will be used to repair, restore and protect historic structures from modest traditional homes to landmark public buildings.
Welcoming this investment, Minister Niamh Smyth described our built heritage as a "tangible expression of our history and culture" and a "distinctive and attractive element of our towns, villages, cities, and countryside."
She said she was "delighted" to receive the confirmation of the funding from her party colleague Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity Christopher O'Sullivan.
She said the party is "committed to supporting communities" in order to "protect and conserve our shared built heritage."
Minister Smyth recognises that this "relies on the dedication of many different parties, including owners and custodians, skilled craftspeople, and local authority experts."
"I want to thank Minister O'Sullivan for this important funding to support their efforts which is vital to ensure the survival of our shared architectural inheritance for future generations,'' Minister Smyth said, adding that she "looks forward to the works commencing."
