Those were the words of Peter Scanlon whose family has traded as jewellers in the town since the 1940s.
The Elegant Gems brand was created in 1989 and today is run by Peter and the team is renowned for their quality, attention to detail and service.
Elegant Gems provides a bespoke engagement ring, wedding ring, diamond ring and CAD ring design service.
“If you do not see a ring you like in stock, we can design and make you your perfect bespoke designed engagement or wedding ring,” explained Peter.
Whether it’s a design that already exists or something you have in your own mind, the experts in jewellery design can make your ideas come to life.
Working with the jewellery professionals at Elegant Gems, you first select a starting point design from thousands of options. Then using their jewellery CAD design software, you have creative control to customise every detail of the jewellery from stone size, shape, and colour to extensive design changes. The result - an immaculate and bespoke piece created for you to be worn for a lifetime.

This year, Elegant Gems will move to a new purpose-built premises close by. Peter and the team will move 20 yards up the road and into the building formerly known as Cathal Brady’s Bar on Ashe Street - an establishment Peter recently purchased with a change of purpose in mind.
