Fundraiser for Heyneman family smashes target in first day

A fundraiser for the family of murder victim Annie Heyneman has smashed through the €20,000 target set in the first day.

Over €30,000 has been raised on the GoFundMe page set up on Friday afternoon to help the family through this difficult time.

Annie Heyneman was killed in her home in Kilnavart, Ballyconnell last Saturday while her husband Henk received serious injuries.

The fundraiser was started by family friend Natalie Grogan, and organised with the consent of the family. The remarkable sum - €30,960 at the time of writing - has been amassed in just 21 hours and with less than 500 donors. Many supporters have donated hundreds of Euro at a time.

Acknowledging the public's response, a message on the web page reads: "Thank you so much to everyone for your support, I know the family are eternally grateful for the love and support at this time."

It details that the funds will be used to help cover funeral costs, and "support Henk once he returns home with any additional care he may need".

The website continues: "I know we as a community want to come together to show this wonderful family our support. To show we are behind them and grieving alongside them.

"On behalf of the Heyneman family I want to thank you all for your support, kind words and prayers at this time."

Daniel Heyneman is charged with the murder of his mother, and attempted murder of his father.
