Youth play for Ramor Theatre

An interesting youth play will take to the stage of the Ramor Theatre next week.

Directed by Carolann Farrelly & Trina McCann, Crom Cruach follows the journey of a group of teenagers, as they embark on a camping trip to the megalithic site of Crom Cruach in County Cavan for a history project.

As the trip unfolds, we hear of secrets, lies, worries and pressures of teenage life in 2025.

This play was originally created by Killeshandra youth drama in 2008 and aimed to highlight the issues and difficulties the young people faced in their daily lives at that time. Now in 2025 Pod Youth Theatre reimagine the play according to their experience.

It has been a very interesting journey and has highlighted changes in language with many words used in the original script were no longer acceptable.

The story ending also changed to reflect changes in technology and the performance has also highlighted how our youth are also a lot more informed, aware of dangers and how to handle them.

The project has also enjoyed collaboration with local Storyteller Daniel Downey.

Daniel is a member of Cavan Yarnspinners, a group of trained storytellers working on reigniting this ancient art in a modern way. His bardic training and experience contributes to the elements of the play.

Pod Youth Theatre was re branded in 2018.

Formerly Ramor Young Players, it was originally established in 1999 in Ramor Arts Centre. It is facilitated by Trina McCann as artistic director along with Carolann Farrelly, arts facilitator.

POD Youth Theatre promotes youth drama opportunities that focus on the artistic, personal and social development of young people.

Pod Youth Theatre welcome all young people, regardless of ability or background, and aim to build collaborative relationships between members, leaders and theatre staff that are based on respect.

This project is funded by Creative Ireland and Cavan County Council through Creative Cavan.
