Body of woman found at house

Man hospitalised with serious injuries.

Gardaí are currently at the scene of a serious incident in West Cavan where the body of a woman has been found.

The incident occurred at a domestic residence in a rural area near Ballyconnell last night, Saturday, January 11.

Officers were alerted to what is understood to be an alleged stabbing incident at approximately 9.30pm.

The body of a woman was discovered at the scene.

A man was also discovered with serious injuries, and he was subsequently taken to hospital for emergency treatment.

It is expected that a full forensic examination will take place later today, Sunday, January 12.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana confirmed that officers are currently at the property and that the body of the woman “remains at the scene tonight”.

“The scene remains sealed off,” they say, adding that there is “no further information available” at this time.

“Further updates will be issued in the morning,” said the garda statement.
