Eight Cavan projects in BT Young Scientist competition

The BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition will host eight projects curated by young scientists from Cavan schools this year.

They will exhibit at the RDS Dublin from this Thursday (January 9) until Saturday (January 11).

Entering schools from Cavan include three projects from St Bricin’s College in Belturbet; Waste to Watts: Harnessing Microbial Fuel Cells as a renewable resource for Developing Countries, Wild(Mix) Attraction – Uncovering Pollinator Preferences in Wildflower Mixes and Beyond the Binary: Statistical Insights into Inclusion and Perceptions of Transgender Athletes in Competitive Sports.

There will also be two from Virginia College; Balancing the Scales! Perceptions of fairness in Weight Loss: Surveying attitudes toward Ozempic and Serene Studies! An investigation into a new and efficient way of education for students with sensory issues in mainstream classes.

One from Breifne College is entered into the competition; SmartMart and one from Loreto College; The strategies and attitudes women have on period pain relief and their impact.

St Patrick’s College also have one entry in this year's competition; Talamh Dubh: A charcoal retort for use in the home.

There are also eight entries from schools in Monaghan.
