The rare 1900s Louis Vuitton Daimer travelling trunk is likely to fetch between €1500 & €3000 at the upcoming auction.

Exotic lots on offer in Victor Mee Auctions end-of-year sale

Victor Mee Auctions is back this December with its spectacular end of year interiors sale. Taking place on Monday December 30 for one day only, the Cavan-based auction house will bring for sale a sumptuous catalogue of over 800 lots of home interiors, antique furniture, carpets, artwork, decorative pieces and so much more to close off 2024 with a bang.

Renowned for its speciality and expertise in Irish country furniture, pub memorabilia and collectibles, Victor Mee Auctions has, in more recent years, stepped earnestly into the world of home interiors with huge success, hosting the spectacular annual Palace Collection Sale and The Finnstown House Collection, among a multitude of other extremely popular decorative interiors auction.

This latest sale stands testament to the tasteful eye of the team at Victor Mee’s with a plethora of gorgeous, unique and superb quality pieces going forward. One of the most interesting lots making an appearance is a rare pair of nearly life size wooden ancestral figures From Sulawesi Island Indonesia known as Tau Tau statues.

The Tau Tau statue is a traditional effigy, associated with the Toraja culture in Indonesia. The intention of the figures is to serve as a spiritual presence, keeping guard over tombs and gravesites. As such, each statue is completely unique, in addition to being absolutely steeped in culture and history. This pair appears as lot 353 with an estimate of €1500-€3000. .

Another rather item is lot 38, a stunning Oriental Kum Kapi silk and metal thread rug. The Kumkapi carpet originates in the Kumkapi district of Istanbul, Turkey. This one is decorated with parrots, measuring a whopping 134cm x 90cm and goes to auction with an estimate of €400-€800.

Lot 301, meanwhile, is a fantastic pair of gilded bronze Gueridon tables in the Maison Jansen style, with provenance from the Ritz Hotel in Paris. This table style, generally supported by a single central column rather than four legs, originated in France during the 17th century and became very popular in French Rococo and Neoclassical furniture designs. They ooze sophistication and French glamour and go to auction with an estimate of €1500-€3000.

Also taking esteem from a prominent hotel, lots 107 and 108 have come from the lavish Savoy Hotel in London. These pairs of Murano glass and gilded metal lily pad wall lights illustrate the intricacy of the glasswork coming from the island of Murano, off the Italian coast, which is famous for its delicacy and vibrancy of the glasswork. Both of these exceptional lots wear the same estimate of €1000-€2000 for a pair.

Lot 380 is a very rare 1900s Louis Vuitton Daimer travelling trunk initially designed in the mid-19th century to meet the needs of travelling aristocrats and explorers. The Damier pattern was the first major pattern designed by the company after its monogram canvas. This gorgeous vintage piece, bearing the serial number 143795, is estimated at €1,500-€3,000.

Lot 33 is a John Butler Yeats piece, a portrait of a lady in a gilt frame, estimated at €600-€800.

Two Graham Knuttel works appear as lots 262 and 324 respectively, both with estimates of €700-€900. Lot 449, meanwhile, is a Markey Robinson piece titled ‘French Window with Figures’, estimated at €3,500-€5,500.

The Winter Decorative Interiors Sale will take place on Monday, December 30, live online, from 12pm.
