Almost €9M for amenity services in Co Cavan

Some €8.9M is being provided by Cavan County Council for recreation & amenity services across the county next year.

In 2024, €8.5M was allocated and the 2025 figure represents an increase of around four per cent.

The service includes: Cavan Library, Children’s Book Festival, partnership initiatives, Cavan/Monaghan Science Festival, Age Friendly Services, Climate Action, promotion of Cavan’s heritage, Cavan County Museum, and the Arts Office.

A new strategy for the local arts scene will be devised in 2025, which will be guided by 'Inclusivity and Ambition'. The priorities areas will focus on supporting artists; increasing diversification; developing audiences; and enhancing the arts infrastructure in Co Cavan.

Meanwhile, 2024 saw the vision of Ramor Virginia and Townhall Cavan theatres come together and work under the one management team. The focus now is on the two venues acting as hubs for the cultural and artistic activities for all of County Cavan with Ramor serving east Cavan and Townhall servicing the county town and west Cavan.

Elsewhere, Cavan County Museum, which is located in Ballyjamesduff, participated in several national celebrations including Culture Night, Heritage Week and Cruinniú na nÓg this year. It was also awarded its accreditation under the Heritage Council’s Museum Standards Programme for Ireland in July 2024.
