Weather warnings extended as Storm Darragh approaches

The entire country will come under a Status Orange weather warning as Storm Darragh passes through.

In Cavan and Monaghan, as well as all of Leinster, the Status Orange will take effect at 10pm tonight with "very strong and gusty northwest winds" forecast.

Met Éireann is warning of the potential for:

• Fallen trees

• Damage to power lines

• Very difficult travelling conditions

• Damage to temporary structures

• Wave overtopping

The warning will remain in place until 10am tomorrow morning (Saturday).

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow rain warning for Cavan and Monaghan is in place from 10am today (Friday) until 10am tomorrow morning (Saturday) with "heavy showers" forecast for tomorrow morning and a risk of localised flooding.
