Apartment development appealed
Plans to build a five-storey apartment development in Cavan Town have been appealed to An Bord Pleanala.
Radar Investments Ltd, a registered company ‘C/O Philip King’ in Killeshandra, were last month given the green light by council planners to proceed with the construction of 66-unit block of apartments at Friars Walk at Farnham Road.
This includes 32 two-beds, with the remaining 34 a mix of one- and three-beds.Planning permission was granted, subject to 39 conditions. However third party concerns include the potential for flooding and the overall scale of the development.
Particulars of the development comprise a new access point to the lands from Farnham Road, along with the construction of a bridge to facilitate vehicular and pedestrian access to the lands.
A communal and public open space includes a formal play area, while the local authority permission also provided for 49 car parking spaces at surface level within a courtyard and accessed via an under-croft at the rear of the building; bin and bicycle storage facilities, services, electric vehicle charge points.
A planning statement submitted by consultants acting on behalf of Radar Investments highlighted the growing population in the county town as a factor, as well as noting the centrality of the development to the town core.
“The proposal is to support this development of Cavan Town as a self-sustaining growth town and deliver a residential scheme centred around sustainable movement, high quality public realms and improved pedestrian and cycling access to the town centre,” the design statement read.
A decision by the national planning authority on the appeal is expected by March 19 next year.
