Over €160K for eight community centres in Cavan
Eight community centres across County Cavan are set to benefit from more than €160,000 in funding for minor improvement works.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, local TD Heather Humphreys, confirmed the allocations to deliver enhancement and refurbishment works at 399 community centres nationwide at a total cost of €7.6M.
The investment includes eight projects across Cavan.
The projects in Cavan are:
✅ Bailieborough Shamrocks GAA Community Centre: €23,732
✅ Ballyhaise Community Hall: €25,000
✅ Bunnoe Community Enterprise Centre: €2,565
✅ Cootehill Community Hub: €24,665
✅ Drumgoon Community Centre: €23,647
✅Redhills Development Association/Killoughter Parochial Community Centre: €19,609
✅ Templeport Resource Centre: €23,516
✅ Tullacmongan Community Resource Centre: €24,537
The Community Centres Investment Fund 2024 was launched in June 2024 to provide investment for upgrade and refurbishments works on existing community centres under two categories;
• Category 1 for minor works with grant aid up to €25,000
• Category 2 for larger works with grant aid up to €100,000
The successful community centre projects announced today are Category 1 applicants. Successful projects under Category 2 will be announced in the coming months.
Making the announcement, Minister Humphreys said that the new fund has delivered total funding of over €82 million for almost 1,300 projects across the country since 2022.
“The Community Centre is open to everybody. It is at the heart of every community in Ireland, rural and urban.
“They are places for people to meet up locally and engage in a wide range of activities whether it’s meals for the elderly, fitness classes, indoor soccer, yoga or even providing a space for the local drama group to perform – the community centre is a home for everybody.
“This funding is about supporting local groups to carry out vital upgrade works as well as enhancing the services and amenities they can provide to persons of all ages in their community.”
Local Fianna Fáil TD Niamh Smyth has welcomed the allocation of €167,271 to community centres in Cavan; while €359,975 has been awarded to Monaghan community centres for similar upgrade works.
"These grants will make a big difference. They will go towards support local groups to replace old windows and doors, upgrade the heating system and to fund PV solar panels to improve energy efficiency.
"Our community centres provide the physical space for friends, neighbours and those who are socially isolated to come together."
