9 local companies awarded Bord Bia Origin Green 'Gold Membership' status

The status recognises annual company sustainability performance.

Nine businesses across Cavan and Monaghan are among 110 food and drink companies nationally that have been awarded Bord Bia Origin Green Gold Membership for their sustainability performance in 2024.

Abbott, Cavan and Lakeland Dairies received membership for the first time this year while Barry John Sausages from Lurganboy; Liffey Meats; and Moran's Mega Jam have all been awarded the prestigious status for the second year in a row.

Meanwhile, the businesses in Monaghan that have been acknowledged include Scotstown's Connolly Meats; Rangeland Foods of Lough Egish; Emyvale's Silver Hill Duck; and Monaghan Mushrooms. Bord Bia says it was a “record year” for Ulster businesses in the Origin Green awards with 17 in total recognised.

Its Director of Sustainability and Quality Assurance, Deirdre Ryan highlighted how the awards “drive continuous change and improvement”. “The record number of companies awarded Gold Membership this year is reflective of the appetite of the Irish food and drink sector to accelerate their sustainability actions,” she continued.

“Acknowledging the efforts and exemplary performance of these companies ensures that we are rewarding change and inspiring others to take their own steps to better our environment. I look forward to seeing our 2024 Gold Members continue to champion sustainability in the coming years.”

Elsewhere, this year’s 110 Gold Membership companies come from across Ireland and represent the dairy, meat, seafood and aquaculture, confectionary, beverages, and horticulture sectors.
