Dympna O'Gorman

Phibsboro, Dublin / Latton, Monaghan

Dympna O’Gorman (née Gibson), Phibsboro, Dublin, formerly Latton, Co Monaghan – peacefully, with her devoted family by her side, at St Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown, on October 27th, just five short weeks after a sudden illness.

Beloved wife of Paddy, with whom she shared a life of laughter and happiness since they first met while working at Post&Telegraphs(P&T); Paddy will feel her absence deeply by his side. Dympna was a deeply cherished mother to Enda and Áine, and her absence leaves an immense void in their lives. Adored by her niece Ann Marie, who was always like a daughter to her, and has been a great support to Enda and Áine during this time.

The arrival of her grandchildren, Daniel and Holly, in the last decade was the happiest time of Dympna’s life. She adored them beyond measure, and they were so lucky to have her love and care right up until they started school. Predeceased by her precious granddaughter Kate Lenihan, her sister Mary (Traynor), and brothers Terry and Packie, Dympna’s nurturing spirit and warmth touched all who knew her.

A talented mathematician, Dympna believed in lifelong learning, continually furthering her qualifications throughout her life. After raising her family, she returned to work at the Central Statistics Office and later brought her expertise to the Companies Registration Office. At home, Dympna’s skilled hands brought beauty and precision to everything she did, whether it was dressmaking, gardening, baking, or tackling DIY projects with ease, reflecting her remarkable creativity and resourcefulness. Her home was a haven, filled with her warmth, creativity, and unwavering love for her family.

Her memory will be deeply treasured by her sister Anna, son in law Tim (Lenihan), sisters-in-law Maria (Edgeworthstown) and Joan (Latton), brother-in-law Liam Smyth (Ballybay), her nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours, and countless friends who cherished her kindness and generosity.

May Dympna’s beautiful kind gentle soul rest in peace.

The O’Gorman family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Eimear O’Reilly (Mater), Dr. Liz Calally (Mater), Dr. Mona Sayegh, Dr. Margaret Edgeworth, Mary & Breege at Shanard Medical, PHN Glenna Murray, and the remarkable staff at St Francis Hospice for their compassionate care in Dympna’s final days.
