Nominations have reopened and will close on Wednesday evening at 5pm.
Fine Gael’s selection convention for the Cavan/Monaghan constituency due to be held this evening has been rescheduled to Friday night. The party’s Executive Council met last night where it was agreed to reschedule the event.
Meanwhile, nominations for potential General Election candidates to contest the convention have reopened and will close at 5pm on Wednesday, October 16.
Fine Gael’s Director of Elections Olwyn Enright says the party is aiming to win two seats in the Cavan-Monaghan constituency following the General Election which is expected to take place on November 29.
“We are in it to win it; Fine Gael intends to win two seats in this very important constituency at the upcoming General Election,” she continued. “We have always had first class politicians at all levels in Cavan and Monaghan, be it in the council or Leinster House.”
She went on to say that Minister Heather Humphreys - who announced she is quitting politics at the next election, over the weekend - Senator Joe O’Reilly; and the late Seymour Crawford did “tremendous work” for the people of Cavan and Monaghan, and Fine Gael party “want this to continue”.
“We have immense talent within the organisation and some great representation at local authority level,” Ms Enright added. “I am looking forward to the rescheduled convention which will select a strong ticket, ensuring Fine Gael take two seats here when we go to the polls.”
