Status yellow wind warning for all of Ireland

Status Orange wind warning for Clare, Kerry, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo according to Met Éireann.

The warning is valid from 10am this morning (Sunday) until 8pm this evening.

A status yellow warning is given for the whole of the island which will remain effective until 3am tomorrow morning (Monday).

Storm Ashley is expected to bring very strong to gale force and gusty south to southwest winds, coupled with high spring tides.

Impacts include coastal flooding, large coastal waves, loose objects displaced, fallen trees, Very difficult travelling conditions, dangerous conditions at sea, damage to power lines, power outages and damage to already weakened structures.

Areas under a yellow warning, which include Cavan, could experience some fallen trees and branches, difficult travelling conditions and loose objects displaced.

Heavy rain will continue to clear eastwards early this morning with winds veering southwesterly and easing a little bit for a short while.

However it's going to become very windy and indeed stormy through the morning as storm Ashley moves closer, with southwest winds increasing strong to gale force and gusty, possibly touching storm force in northwestern coastal parts this afternoon and evening, with severe and damaging gusts.

Showers or longer spells of rain will move into the west and northwest through the morning and early afternoon and will gradually spread southeastwards.

The rain will be heaviest in the west and northwest, with isolated thunderstorms and some spot flooding possible. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.

It's going to continue very windy for a time early tonight with showers or longer spells of rain for a time.

However the winds will gradually moderate overnight and it'll become drier , with some clear spells developing.

Tomorrow will be a much drier day with some sunshine and just a few well scattered showers through the morning and for much of the afternoon.

It'll become cloudier though from the west through the afternoon and evening, with some showery outbreaks of rain gradually moving in from the northwest later in the afternoon and spreading further eastwards through the evening.

Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in mostly moderate southwest winds, those winds increasing fresh to strong in Atlantic coastal parts.
