NOT FOR PROFIT: Adding value through style and substance at Vincent’s

The Vincent's retail network in Cavan - seven shops in total - are a cornerstone in helping those most in need in their respective communities.

The shops are a popular destination not just for people seeking affordable clothing and household items, but also for those wanting to support a good cause as well as embrace environmentally conscious choices.

Outside of the county town, shops are located in Ballyjamesuff, Virginia, Kingscourt, Mullagh, Cootehill and Bailieborough.

The Vincent's store in Cavan Town first opened its doors in 1984, celebrating 40 years of making a difference back in August. Shop manager Léan Brady believes the retailer has a own special place in the hearts of minds of people living locally, not only as a business but as a social hub.

“We offer our customers all ranges of high-quality, preloved goods in different ranges for people of all demographics, whether they shop from our value range or our designer range. At Vincent's each region and all shops nationally work together to run a circular economy where we send and receive donations to each other helping to stop clothing and goods going to landfill,” says Léan, explaining Vincent's 'Triple Bottom Line' - generating social, environmental and economic value.

SVP leverages its retail portfolio and wider supply chain to fund vital work supporting vulnerable individuals and families.

In Cavan Town, St Vincent De Paul plans to develop six new housing units - four one bed apartments and two two-bed apartments. They are also in the process of converting two other properties - one into a two bedroom house and one as a four bed family home.

The success of the network however is rooted in the dedication of volunteers and staff, many of whom are on Community Employment and TUS schemes, or searching for an opportunity to integrate after fleeing war in places like Ukraine. Then there are the dozens who simply give up their free time to volunteer, some of whom have given over 15 years of service.

Their commitment reflects the values of SVP, says Léan. “They are the people who truly deserve this award and honour.”
