BEST EMERGING NEW BUSINESS: A slice of paradise in Shercock
Sabina and her husband David Brennan have created what she describes as “a slice of paradise” in Shercock with the opening of their lakeside cottages.
The Dublin natives moved to Cavan just over two years ago inheriting 200 year old cottages, which they have recently refurbished to cater for guests in the heart of the county of the lakes.
Overlooking Lough Sillan, the retreat boasts an outdoor spa with a sauna and hot tub, relaxation rom and direct access to the lake. They can also explore eight acres of “beautiful” gardens in this “get away from it all staycation place in Cavan". The garden is the perfect mixture of wild woodland with 200-year-old trees, landscaped gardens and wildlife.
Having just opened their doors in June, Lough Sillan Lakeside Cottages have already been classified as a superhost on Airbnb, landing themselves in the top one per cent of hosts on the platform.
“We’ve had just five star ratings all round.”
The grounds are home to three cottages, which can be rented out simultaneously or separately depending on your party size. The cottages, named Copper Cove Cottage, Linden Lodge and The Little Gem are “very unique and quirky” in a courtyard setting.
The fourth building on the grounds has been transformed into a kitchen for guests.
“Everyone comes here and they go, oh we were thinking of going out for a meal but where’s the nearest shop?
“We’re going to just stay here and cook here,” she reported of some visitors’ comments.
They also have 400 metres of access to the lake meaning people can go out on their kayaks, and can go “for a dip” in between the hot tub and the sauna.
“I think it’s nice that we’re bringing them to Cavan as a place to stay as opposed to a stop-off point to tour other parts of the country.
“This is a destination and they shop locally, any of them that do want to go somewhere they go for meals locally.
“We’re so fortunate to be in such a stunning location, it’s just too nice not to share.
“I never realised that Cavan was such an amazing county and I think it’s under represented in the tourism industry.”
