Still no leads on injured garda
Despite an exhaustive investigation gardaí have been unable to secure any breakthrough on an investigation into an alleged attack on a garda at gunpoint, during which he was doused in petrol.
Garda Pádraig Scott was also badly beaten during the ordeal more than two and a half years ago and has still not yet returned to work.
The case remains open, but gardaí have been unable to trace a car the criminals used to flee the scene in the early hours of February 28, 2022.
Roscommon native Gda Scott had been stationed in Blacklion for two years previous, and had more than six years experience in the force under his belt when he was brutally assaulted at an area next to Loughan House Open Prison, known locally as White Father’s Caves.
He sustained a concussion among other injuries and was hospitalised for a time afterwards.
His car keys and service radio were thrown into a nearby field during the attack.
The garda was lying at the scene for around 30 minutes before back-up arrived after the alert was raised by a colleague who was contacted by Gda Scott and then became concerned for his well-being.
Gda Scott is understood to have been extensively interviewed by specialists officers.
The incident amplified calls for additional policing manpower in the Border region.
As part of their appeal for information gardaí have asked that any person driving on the N16, Cavan, passing Loughan House Prison, or the R206 and R207 at their junction with the N16, between 7pm on Sunday, February 27 and 3am on Monday, February 28, to make contact. They are particularly interested in any person with video footage such as dashcam footage from the area at the time.
