Pair arrested following discovery of suspected growhouse

Gardaí in Co Monaghan have arrested a man and a woman following the discovery of a suspected growhouse in County Monaghan.

Officers seized suspected cannabis plants and dried herbal cannabis during a raid on a premises yesterday (Tuesday), September 17. Subject to analysis, the drugs have an estimated street value of €88,000 .

During the course of the search of a residence under warrant in Castleblayney, a growhouse was discovered containing 50 cannabis plants, with a street value of €42,000, as well as €46,000 worth of dried cannabis herb and €1,000 worth of MDMA (all subject to analysis).

The operation was carried out by local Gardaí, assisted by the members from Community Engagement Monaghan, Crime Unit Monaghan and Divisional Drugs Unit.

The drugs seized will now undergo further analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.

The man and woman (both aged in their 30s) arrested in connection with the investigation are detained at a Garda station in the Co Monaghan area pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Investigations are ongoing.
