Young Gowna artist shortlisted for portrait of his mother
From hundreds of entries, a young Cavan artist has been shortlisted for this year’s AIB Young Portrait Prize by the National Gallery of Ireland.
For the second year running, Adam Wiercioch Chinatamunnee, will be among the final 20 young artists to have his work displayed in the National Gallery.
The eight year old has been shortlisted for his fabulous work titled My Mother, a piece in oil pastel on paper.
Last year Adam was shortlisted in the same prestigious competition for his portrait, 'My Father', a collage made of mixed media, gelli prints, marker, and newspaper on paper.
Adam also won a Special Merit Award in the Texaco 2022 competition for his still life painting of a bowl fruit. The St. Patrick's National School pupil also had his excellent work selected for the 2023 Texaco Children’s Art Competition Calendar.
This year’s judges are: Ashwin Chacko, author-illustrator and motivational speaker, Emmalene Blake, a visual street artist, and Sheena Barrett, Head of Research and Learning at the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
Exhibitions of the shortlisted works run at the National Gallery of Ireland from 9 November 9 to March 9. The winners of the prizes will be announced at a ceremony held in the National Gallery on Wednesday, November 27.
