Cavan Institute open day

Cavan Institute offers over 70 Post Leaving Cert (PLC) courses, as well as apprenticeship and traineeship courses. These are all offered under the umbrella of Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB), which provides a wide variety of Further Education and Training (FET) courses.

The majority of these one year or two-year programmes that lead to an award on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) at Level 5 or Level 6.

The courses help develop technical and practical skills for an industry recognised qualification, which can lead directly to employment. They also offer an alternative route into higher education.

Pre-university courses include Teaching, Law and Accounting, while popular QQI accredited courses are Nursing, Computing, Psychology, Engineering, Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Childcare, Healthcare, Science, Sport, Music, construction and Tourism.

The option of doing a Post Leaving Cert (PLC) is favoured by a substantial number of Leaving Cert students who may wish to do a taster course closer to home before embarking on an expensive degree programme.PLC courses are also popular with people returning to education.

Fees at Cavan Institute are now only €200 for all courses, compared with over €3,000 for many universities.
