Killydoon bypass ‘progressing well’ on N55
Motorists travelling on the N55 near Killydoon are being advised to “take care” as roadworks in the area progress.
The construction of the section B of the 3.7km Corduff to South of Killydoon realignment scheme is “progressing well”, a spokesperson told the Celt this week.
“The scheme is on programme and expected to be complete by December 2024,” they told the Celt of the project otherwise known as the Killydoon bypass.
“Motorists travelling on the N55 between the townlands of Ballytrust and Mullahoran are advised that traffic has been diverted onto some sections of the new alignment under traffic management conditions. Works on these sections are not complete and motorists are advised to drive with care and to please take heed of the traffic management that is in place,” said the spokesperson.
Clare Civil Engineering Ltd is carrying out the roadworks on behalf of Cavan County Council.
The new route involves three single-span bridges over the River Erne, as well as culvert crossings to accommodate existing watercourses, surface and sub‐surface drainage including storm attenuation, petrol interceptors and outfalls.
The new section of road will tie into section A, which was completed in 2018 at Ballytrust.
The €30M scheme will offer a safer route for the approximately 5,000 vehicles that travel the route each day.
