'I’m here to help, I’ll do my best for everybody' – Brady
Newly elected Cllr Niamh Brady is “delighted to be serving on Cavan County Council as a Fine Gael representative.
“I’m thrilled to get on it, after all the canvassing and the work it was a great result and I’m very happy.”
Following the first sitting of Cavan County Council last week, Cllr Brady, who won the seat vacated by her mother, Cllr Madeleine Argue, who retired, said she was “listening and learning” in her new position.
“It was very interesting, I enjoyed it and I’ve a lot to learn but, over the next few months, please God I’ll be well up to speed,” she assured, having been raised in a house full of politics between her mother Cllr Argue and her father Terry Argue, who sat on Cavan Town Council.
Following in their footsteps, and also that of her late grandfather, Senator Andy O'Brien, Cllr Brady hopes to highlight a range of issues raised with her while she was out canvassing. These include more supports for people with autism, improving the traffic around the town, increased accessibility to medical services, providing more disabled parking spaces in the town and adding more stops to the Local Link service. The mum of two also heard that people want more housing and facilities for children.
“I’ve a list as long as my arm but that’s the start of it anyhow,” she said.
“I just want everybody to know that I’m always available,” Cllr Brady said, encouraging people to call her by phone if they have any issues they would like to raise.
“I’m here to help, I’ll do my best for everybody.
“That’s what I’m here for and that’s why I wanted to get on the council because I really do like meeting people and helping people.”
