Looking forward to helping others

Newly elected Niall Smith (FF) is “delighted to be elected as a county councillor in the Bailieborough area”.

“I’m delighted to help the people of the area,” he said.

“I’m getting phone calls all the time,” the Knockbride native said, explaining that these calls are mostly about footpaths and roads in the area.

“I’m just getting my feet on the ground,” Cllr Smith said, adding that he hopes to help address the roads issue during his time on Cavan County Council.

Other issues on his radar include healthcare, particularly addressing the lack of speech and language therapists and after school services for children in the area.

Living in Bailieborough for the past 20 years, Cllr Smith is happy to see that the buildings have been “facelifted” and that the old courthouse is being replastered and renovated into a heritage centre and meeting hub, with the Town Centre First Plan underway and making noticeable progress.

“The new garda station is being built at the minute as well,” he added, to which he said the town is “looking forward” to it finally opening.

“I’m finding my way,” the electrician said of his new appointment, adding that he is looking forward to induction in the coming weeks, which will help him to help others in the area.
