Teen charged following fatal tractor accident

A teenage boy has been charged in connection with a fatal accident involving a tractor over a year ago.

The boy, with an address in County Cavan, appeared before Judge Raymond Finnegan at Cavan District Court last Thursday.

He is charged with driving without due care and attention causing the death of another at Middletown, Loughduff.

Keely McGivney, who was then aged 17, lost her life following the accident on May 30 last year.

From London, she was spending the summer holidays with family in Ireland.

The young man was also aged 17 at the time of the incident but has since turned 18 years.

The defendant faces a second charge of being the user of a vehicle on which there was no valid insurance policy in place.

The case was adjourned to September 5 for the service of a book of evidence in the case.

The maximum penalty, on conviction, for careless driving causing death is two years in prison or a €10,000 fine or both before mitigating factors are taken into account.
