Publican takes over Cavan Town licences

The owner of The Meadow View, Declan Sheridan, has taken on the licences for two more previously popular pubs in Cavan Town.

Mr Sheridan was reported last year to have done a deal to buy the The Owen Roe, colloquially known as 'The Congo', at 7 Bridge Street, and its near neighbour Cadden’s 'The Well', at 11 Bridge Street.

The ad interim transfer to Pleasure Dome Entertainment Limited in respect of both premises was submitted before Judge Raymond Finnegan at Cavan District Court last Thursday, June 27.

An Garda Siochana and the HSE were notice parties to the application.

Mr Sheridan struck a deal for the two neighbouring properties in June 2023.

‘The Well’, with rear access from Bridge Street car park, was first put on the market in 2021.

'The Congo' was relisted for sale, having stopped trading as a public house, and was sold as having retail potential.

At the Cavan court sitting solicitor Larry Burke, representing Mr Sheridan, informed Judge O'Reilly that the publican had 35 years experience operating in the licensing trade, and was well aware of the stipulations and his responsibilities.

Mr Burke said that his client was “anxious to keep the licence alive” when the application for 'The Well' was being processed.

He also said that Mr Sheridan would give an undertaking not to trade with the consent of the Cavan fire officer.

A copy of the deeds and the land registry update were handed into the judge, and Mr Burke committed to later filing an up-to-date company registration for Pleasure Dome Entertainment Limited.

Judge O'Reilly noted that there was no garda objection to the licence transfer taking place.

A similar application was made for 'The Congo'.

Judge O'Reilly granted both applications, and wished Mr Sheridan “good luck” with his future enterprising endeavours.
