HSA investigate second work-related accident in less than a week

An investigation is underway following the tragic death of a man in the south Cavan area following a construction-related accident yesterday (Tuesday).

The man, in his early 40s, died in the early hours of this morning as a result of injuries sustained. It was the second work-related fatality in the county in less than a week.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has confirmed it is aware of the tragic incident and "has launched an investigation".

A spokesperson added: "No further information is available at this time."

Separately, last Thursday afternoon, a 17-year-old worker died tragically in a workplace accident at the Wilton Waste recycling and scrap metal facility near Ballyjamesduff.

Reece Donohoe from Upper Main Street, Kilnaleck, was laid to rest on Tuesday afternoon.

The circumstances leading to his death are also under investigation by the HSA.

The HSA reported no work-place fatality in Co Cavan in 2023.

Up to and including June 16, 2024, there was one reported workplace fatality in Cavan for 2024.
