Counting resumes with votes distribution in Ballyduff Electoral Area

Counting in the Ballyjamesduff Electoral Area has resumed this morning after it was postponed at 1am following the election of Cllr Shane P O’Reilly (II) and Cllr Trevor Smith (FG).

Proceedings are kicking off with the distribution of 109 votes from Kieran Goggins (IFP) who was eliminated from the race following the election of the two sitting councillors to the municipal district.

Cllr Shane P O’Reilly’s surplus (174) and Cllr Trevor Smith’s surplus (64) will also be distributed. With two seats clinched at this stage out of a total of six, all eyes will be on the third seat which, depending on transfers, is likely to see either Cllr TP O’Reilly (FG) or Cllr Winston Bennett (FG) elected.

However, it will probably be count three and well after midday before that will be determined. Meanwhile, counting in the European Elections in the Midlands North West Constituency is also underway in Castlebar. Pundits expect it could be Thursday or Friday before all five seats are filled.
