Tide turns in Ballyduff Electoral Area

The tide appears to be turning as tallying continues in the Ballyjamesduff Electoral Area at the Local Elections count centre in Cavan.

Cllr Shane P O’Reilly (II) who appears to be on track to top the poll in this electoral area with 15.2% of the vote or 1,750 first preferences.

Cllr Philip Brady (FF) has leapfrogged into 4th position with 11% of the votes (1,262); while Cllr Trevor Smith (FG) is in contention to take the second seat on the Ballyjamesduff MD with 1,642 votes or 14.3% of the ballot.

His party colleague Cllr Winston Bennett (FG) is just behind him in third place having secured 1,429 (12.4%) first preference votes.

Cllr TP O’Reilly (FG) is in fifth place, according to tallies, with 1,143 votes (10%); Noel Connell (SF) who lost his seat on the MD in 2019 is now in sixth place with 9.2% share or 1,052 votes.

Lester Gordon (Shamrock Independents) has 741 votes (8.1%) and is still in the race for that final seat.

Nathan Galligan (FF) has 7.2% of the vote; while Grainne McPhilips (Aontu) is trailing him on 6.7% or 741 votes. while Angela Gaffney is in 10th position on 427 votes and Kieran Goggins has 87 votes or 0.9%.

All boxes (98%) have now been tallied, except for the postal vote, which is under way.

Once all the boxes are opened and the final tallies are in, counting in the Local Elections 24 will get underway in Co Cavan.
