Cancer Care weekend for Daffodil Day

Appeal for volunteers to sell pins

A weekend of events, aimed at supporting those affected by cancer, is set to take place in Belturbet.

The inaugural Belturbet Cancer Care Weekend, March 22-24, coincides with national Daffodil Day tomorrow (Friday), March 22.

From 10.30am on Friday, March 22, coffee, cakes and daffodils will be on sale locally to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society and Cavan Oncology Unit; with a table quiz to take place at The Seven Horseshoes, starting at 7:30pm (table of four €40), followed by music with Gina and Ray.

On Saturday, March 23, a cake sale will take place at Belturbet's Rory O'Moore's GAA grounds from 9.30am to 11am; and more fun with the Annagh Lake Dippers for those brave enough to join them for a swim at Annagh Lake from 2pm.

The final day, Sunday, March 24, will begin with a Belturbet Community Get-together.

From 1-2pm there will be a Community Walk - meeting at the Railway Goodstore, registration €10 per family - followed by refreshments and entertainment from 2-4pm.

At 4.30pm there will be a Sound Bath at Belturbet's Civic Centre; with the weekend concluding with a Monster Auction and Raffle at the Railway Bar from 7:30pm.

Volunteers

Meanwhile, organisers are looking for volunteers to sell Daffodils at locations across the county this Friday, March 22.

Organiser Martina Lee Boyle is urging people to get in contact "if you can spare a couple of hours" or even organise a coffee morning or another event.

"Let's all go in against cancer and turn Cavan yellow this Daffodil Day," she urged.

Martina can be contacted on 086-3782928. Please indicate where you are based and your preferred hours.
