Holy Rosary Sisters: Celebrating the here and now

The Centenary celebrations of the foundation of The Missionary of the Holy Rosary Sisters in Cavan begins this week - 100 years after it was established at Drumully House in Killeshandra on March 7, 1924.

Since the closure of the House in 1985, the numbers entering vocations has declined. However the sisters in Cavan have continued their involvement in community and religious work to this day.

Sr Christina says that, these days, the nuns visit nursing homes and prisons as well as supporting immigrants who arrive in Co Cavan.

The Missionary Sisters Publications Office is also based in Cavan and the local Sisters are in regular contact with the Order’s benefactors.

They also continue in pastoral work and music. Sr Christina, herself, is a member of the Cathedral Choir. “The Sisters go quietly about their work without seeking praise or looking for acknowledgement,” she continued.

“Prayer is also a very important part of our day; people write to us asking us to pray for them and we do; we pray for people, we pray for the world.”

Today (Sunday), March 10, Mass takes place in Killeshandra at 3pm - the place where it all began for the Holy Rosary Sisters 100 years ago this week.

Centenary celebrations conclude in August with a special Mass at the Cathedral in Cavan where Holy Rosary Sisters from across the globe will gather to join in the prayer and festivities.
