Road works update given forCavan Belturbet district

A number of road projects are advancing in the Cavan Belturbet Municipal District, as detailed to councillors at their April monthly meeting.

On the Restoration Improvement Programme 2025, the reconstruction of the R-200-3 from Bellavally to Carty’s Bridge/Glangevlin is currently 15% complete, said Senior Area Engineer Paul Mulligan giving members an update on progress to date. Drainage works on the project are ongoing.

Works on the L 5586-0 at Kilmore Upper/Danesfort (Drumhecknagh Road) are 25% complete. The meeting heard there is “huge stress” on this junction. The route had a poor road structure, which the council workers evacuated to the firm foundation of the road. After placing and compacting stone, temporary surfacing was put down.

“That will be strengthened again with tarmacadam,” Mr Mulligan explained.

The road re-construction at the L6036-0 Killynebber and the L 60361-0 Reservoir Road was said to be 30% completed.

Both the L55321-0 Drumard/Derryniggan road and the L15121-0 Drumard Road are 30% complete.

Re-construction works on the L15122-0 at Drumullan are “starting this week”, Mr Mulligan informed last week’s meeting; while phase two works on the L 5515-0 Kilconny-Raheelan, Belturbet road “hasn’t started yet”.

There is “another few weeks of drainage” work on the L1069-0 Whitefield Cross to Ardlougher road, which is undergoing the first phase of construction and is currently at 25% completion.

“There’s no stone left unturned,” Mr Mulligan said of the project, adding that drainage on the road is “critical”.

While praising the “great work being done” Cllr Damien Brady (SF), asked: “When will they advance on up the road?” adding that it would be “great if that road was finished out to the end.”

Responding to his query, Mr Mulligan said that this is on the cards in a “future programme” adding that the team must “try to balance what really needs to be done”.

“I don’t like doing a bit of a job,” he added, detailing that the area would “probably” be included “at the next programme”.

“If you see anything, it all goes on the list,” he urged those gathered.

Corlough Church Road

Mr Mulligan said they council is “moving in a crew fairly shortly” for the re-construction of the L 1029-0 Corracomera Road (Corlough Church Road) which hasn’t started yet.

Drainage works on the L 5046-0 Cloneary, Bawnboy road are “well advanced” with one or two weeks left before the road is “ready” for surfacing.

On the L 50451-0 Gortaclogher road preparation works are “well advanced” with the project 25% completed.

In Kildallan on the L5071-0 road, drainage remedial works are ongoing. Here workers “started at the top of the hill” and will “work” their way down.

Cllr Áine Smith (FF) said that works in Kildallan are “very welcomed” particularly the widening of the road to the school and graveyard. She thanked Mr Mulligan and the “men on the ground” and said that the people in the area are “singing your praises”.

Meanwhile drainage remedial works on the R 200-1 Glan to Dowra road have been completed, with Mr Mulligan informing those gathered that works completed are done with a “future view”.

“We’ll see the benefit of the works in the years to come,” he explained.

Embankment slippage and drainage remedial works have been completed on the L 1020-0 Tullyveela road.

Cllr Brendan Fay (Ind) praised the “absolutely fantastic work” carried out and congratulated Mr Mulligan and his team, with Cllr Niamh Brady (FG) also welcomnig the works.

While Cllr Patricia Walsh (FF) said the update was “very comprehensive”; while Cllr John Paul Feeley (FF) praised the “great work being done”.

“People seeing work happening means at least we’re aware of the problem,” he added.
