Smith appointed to regional assembly
Fine Gael's Trevor Smith has been nominated to sit as a member of the Northern and Western Regional Assembly in place of Independent Ireland's Shane P. O'Reilly.
The council has two representatives on the assembly, and Cllr Smith joins Fianna Fáil's Áine Smith in attending the meetings, which are generally held at the organisation's regional office in Ballaghderreen, Co Roscommon.
Cllr Smith's nomination to the representative body was proposed by Cllr Winston Bennett (FG) who said that the Ballyjamesduff man would serve well on the NWRA as his father Paddy had before him.
“I know he will work hard for the role,” said Cllr Bennett, acknowledging the NWRA, which feeds into the National Planning Framework, as an “important committee”.
The proposal was seconded by Carmel Brady (FG).
