Easter Sunday funeral for young man killed in tractor accident

The Funeral Mass of a young man killed in a tractor accident near Carrigallen will take place on Easter Sunday.

Desmond O'Kelly from Drumloona, Carrigallen, lost his life in the single-vehicle collision last Tuesday afternoon on the R204 at Aghavilla, Carrigallen, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death has shocked the communities in Leitrim and west Cavan.

Tributes have been paid to the young man who was a popular first year student at the Teagasc Agricultural College in Ballyhaise, Co Cavan, studying for his green cert.

Principal, John Kelly, said the college community is in shock and extended his sincere sympathy to Dessie's family and friends.

"He joined our college last September, engaged enthusiastically in the course, made new friends, and had a passion for machinery and workshop skills," said Mr Kelly.

A former student at Carrigallen Vocational School, the school will be open from 11 to lunchtime today (Thursday) to offer support to current and last year’s Leaving Cert students in the wake of the tragedy.

Dessie is deeply regretted by his heartbroken parents Gene and Teresa, his sister Clara (Liam) and his girlfriend Chloe. He will be sadly missed by his grandmother Moira O' Rourke, aunts, uncles, cousins, grand-uncle, grand-aunts and his many friends.

Dessie will repose at his home (H12TW30) on Good Friday, April 18, from 4-8pm and on Easter Saturday, April 19, from 5-8pm.

One way system in operation. Entrance via Newtowngore, Carrigallen Road. House private at all other times.

His Funeral Mass will take place in St Mary's Church, Drumeela (H12HP63) on Easter Sunday at 2pm, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
