Two Cavan men will walk from Dundalk to Sligo, roughly 170km, to raise funds for an addiction and suicide prevention charity.
Starting tomorrow morning (Friday), Ciarán Jermyn and Brían McGauran are aiming to finish their challenge by Monday evening.
"That's the window we're giving ourselves anyway hopefully it won't be any longer," Ciarán tells the Celt.
They hope to start with "a big push" on the first two days, walking 50km on both Friday and Saturday, then 35km on Sunday and around 30km on Monday. Each night of the challenge, they will camp where they finish up for the day. The first night, they hope to stay near Newbliss in Monaghan, in Blacklion on the second night and finally near Lough Gill on the Sligo Leitrim border.
"We've always been big into the fishing and camping and all that sort of craic," he says.
"It's something we wanted to do so we said do you know what, feck it we may as well raise a few pound for charity."
The cause the Ballinagh and Drumalee men have chosen is a very worthy one; Sligo-based chairty Social Ground Force which offers support on recovery from addiction and depression, as well as providing suicide prevention services.
While both men hail from the Breifne county, they went to college in Sligo, where Ciarán now lives with his partner.
"The main areas they [the charity] work around would be suicide prevention and addiction. Unfortunately, that's two topics that we're starting to see a lot at the minute so we're just trying to help out a small charity," the twenty-four-year-old said.
They smashed their initial goal of raising €1000 for the charity, which they have now bumped up to €2000. Already well on the way to hitting this target, they have currently raised €1400.
"We said we'd bump it up another bit and see how far we can take it."
"We're getting there now," he adds.
