Multi-storey carpark to reopen
A major refurbishment of the multi-storey carpark in Cavan Town is nearing completion and set to reopen to the public next month.
Ahead of its reopening, the council has advertised tenders for security ancillary services checks at the facility.
Local firm McCabe Group from Ballyjamesduff was appointed to carry out the €4M worth of repairs.
The multi-storey has been closed to the public since May 2023 to allow the improvement works to take place.
It has been the first major construction investment at the property since it was built in 2001.
This required “major structural elements” and the “replacement of weakened structural steel members in the internal ramps”, followed by sand blasting the entire structural steel frame back to bare steel.
A new traffic management system will apply, while modern pay stations that will accept cash, cards and tap-and-pay facilities, are being installed. Meanwhile two existing passenger lifts are being replaced and electrical and mechanical services upgraded.
The council currently pays annual charges for the carpark in the region of €166,000 on a loan agreement signed in 2015.
The public contract tendered for security is for a period of 24 months. The deadline for applications is next Monday, April 14.
