Marcus Magee will play a solo set at the Townhall Cavan.

Marcus goes it alone at Townhall

Marcus Magee is set to perform an acoustic solo version of his album 'Rising from the Hollaw' in the Townhall this weekend.

Marcus and his band 'The Hollaw Men' successfully launched their debut album in April of last year, playing in venues like The Sugar Club, Whelans Main Venue, Róisín Dubh and the big top tent at Cavan Arts Festival. A year on the Kill musician will bring a different flavour to the album as he strips it back to its essential.

Anyone who has heard the album knows the songs infused with the resilience and hope drawn from his personal journey of overcoming adversity, are strong enough to stand on their own.

The haunting debut single, “Mac Dee,” garnered widespread radio play, with Fiachna Ó Braonáin of RTÉ Radio 1 praising it as “a beautiful and poignant piece of work.”

IMRO Ireland meanwhile lauded Magee "as a soulful and gifted songwriter, musician, and captivating live performer".

Marcus is excited to be back playing in the Townhall Theatre Cavan for this unique solo show on Saturday night, April 5. This intimate performance will offer audiences an unvarnished version of his tracks, providing an exclusive insight into the creative process behind the songs. It’s a chance to experience the songs in their most authentic form.

Special guest is Marcus's good friend Martin Nielsen from Denmark who is going to open the show with a hand pan instrumental set. A world travelled anthropologist, social worker and life-long musician, Martin released his hand pan album 'Fragments of Water' last July. He has spent many years performing to children in camps in war torn countries such as Syria and Lebanon.
